Members of Girl Scout Troop 10324, all students at SMAMS, attended a legislative session on Monday afternoon at the Louisiana State Capitol. The girls were there to support an amendment to a bill which will fund improvements to a lake at a nearby Girl Scout camp. Without the funding, the lake would eventually run into the Tangipahoa River and be lost to the camp. The lake, which needs improvements, is dear to their hearts – it’s where they have camped, swum, canoed, kayaked, and retired American flags for the past 8 years as Girl Scouts.
When the funding was inadvertently removed from the bill earlier this month, the girls wrote letters to the House Ways and Means Committee to state their support for the funding. While at the capitol, they met legislators, lobbyists, and the CEO of Girl Scouts Louisiana East and got to see in person how a bill gets passed!
